The Quality of Knowing

The Quality of Knowing is Tom Saunders' fifth novel and is set in a seaside town.

The heat was unimaginable, the green of the countryside burnt to a dusty brown. Met Office records had been equalled and exceeded. Gardeners everywhere mourned the wilting of their best blooms and grew nostalgic for rain and resentful of hosepipe bans. Deliveries of sun-block and sunglasses failed to keep pace with the soaring temperatures. The neglected Victorian seaside resorts were crowded again. Along the seafronts, fish and chips, hot-dogs and burgers were being watched over by perspiring vendors and served to holiday-makers madly braving the midday sun under skies of Continental blue. While out on the piers and down on the beaches, ice-cream cones melted in seconds in the heat, tiny children licking their fingers, their faces bearded with white.

Dominic Keller is driving back home -- back to the house he grew up in, back with his mother, and the ghost of his older sister Saskia.

The book is published in paperback for £10 (postage free UK, £7 extra overseas) and as a MOBI file for £4. MOBI files are emailed to the buyer as an attachment that can be loaded on Kindle. To do this, save the MOBI file on your computer. Plug your Kindle into a USB socket on your computer using the Amazon USB lead (just remove the power plug). The Kindle menu will appear. Select and open the 'document' folder. Copy and paste (or Move) the MOBI file from your computer into the document folder. Unplug your Kindle. The file will appear as a new book on your Kindle. Happy reading!

Alternatively, you can email the MOBI file to your Kindle (or Kindle app on your phone) by sending it to the email address for your Kindle.

There is also a version available from Kindle if you prefer that Amazon reaps the reward rather than the writer! However, the one advantage of the Amazon link is that you can read the first few pages of the book using the 'Look Inside' link on the page.
